Dating app safety features compared

The safety features of seven dating apps in one table: how each verifies profiles, whether verification is free, how to report and block, and what each offers for the date itself. Every cell about another app links to that app's own page.

An empty cell means we could not confirm the feature on the app's official pages when we checked. It does not mean the app lacks it.

Methodology

  • We compared Miragano with six widely used dating apps: Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Badoo, Feeld and happn.
  • For each app we read only its own website, safety centre and help pages. News articles, reviews and third-party sites were not used.
  • Every cell links to the page it came from. If we could not confirm a feature on an official page, the cell is left empty. An empty cell means we did not find it, not that the app lacks it.
  • Some help centre pages could not be read when we checked, so features described only there are not included yet.
  • Miragano's column describes the product as built today. Prices are not compared.

Questions people ask

Which dating apps offer photo verification?

All six apps we checked describe some form of photo or selfie verification on their own pages: Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Badoo, Feeld and happn. The method differs. Some compare a video selfie with profile photos, some ask you to copy a pose, and Tinder and Bumble also offer ID verification. On Miragano, photo verification is required for everyone before they appear in Discover: a live selfie copying a random pose, matched to profile photos, with a person reviewing it when the automatic check is unsure. It is free and it is not an ID check.

Is dating app verification free?

It depends on the app, and many apps do not say clearly on their public pages. Of the apps in this table, Bumble's own feature announcement says its ID Verification is free. For the others we could not confirm the cost on an official page, so the cell is left empty rather than guessed. On Miragano, photo verification is free for everyone on every plan, along with reporting, blocking, Safe Date Check-in and emergency information. Safety is never part of a paid plan, and that will not change when paid plans open with the app store launch.

Which dating apps let you share your date details with a friend?

Tinder describes Share My Date, and Bumble describes Share Date, both for sending the details of a meetup to someone you trust. Tinder's US safety guide also describes adding meetup details to Noonlight, a safety partner. Miragano has Safe Date Check-in: for an accepted date you add a trusted contact and a check-in time, the app asks if you are OK at that time, and if you do not answer within 30 minutes your contact is emailed once with the date's first name, place and time. Your date is never told. It is free.

How was this table researched?

We read each app's own website, safety centre and help pages and recorded only what those pages say, with a link and the date we checked. Third-party reviews, news articles and app store listings were not used. Where an official page could not be read or did not mention a feature, we left the cell empty instead of guessing. We review the table regularly and correct it when apps change. If you spot something out of date, email hello@miragano.com with the official page and we will check it and update the table.

Can I cite or reuse this table?

Yes. You are welcome to cite this table in articles, research or teaching. Please link to this page and include the last reviewed date, because dating apps change their features often and readers should be able to check the current version. A suggested citation is shown on the page. If you quote a specific fact about another app, it is best to link to that app's own page too; every cell in the table links to its source. For corrections or questions, email hello@miragano.com and we will reply.
